Astrakhan State University

(formerly Astrakhan State Pedagogical University) is a university located in Astrakhan, Russian Federation. It was founded in 1932.

The traditional functions of Astrakhan State University include training specialists and fundamental researches; but ASU also works actively to export its educational services and to share new technologies with the industry and the business.

ASU actively develops its international links. Jointly with its partners from Finland, Italy, Japan, Germany, France, China, Iran, Egypt, United States, Uzbekistan, and from other countries, Astrakhan State University carries out the following programs: short-term language courses, student exchanges, joint research and innovative projects, joint courses for students, international conferences.

Bashkir State University

Bashkir State University is a center for postgraduate studies which provides postgraduate courses in 56 scientific majors and doctoral courses in 8 scientific majors. There are 10 doctoral and 3 candidate dissertation councils which are responsible for defense and awarding academic degrees in 23 majors.

It is home to famous Bashkirians, as well as Russian scientists, researchers, mathematicians, economists, and poets. It is strong in organic chemistry, applied mathematics, philology, information technology, geophysics, and petroleum engineering. Many prominent applied mathematicians and physicists were among the faculty at Bashkir State University, including Academicians Nikolay Bogolyubov, Alexei Leontiev, Valentine Napalkov and Professor of Philology Gabdulkhay Kh. Akhatov.

In Ufa (from 1941 to 1943) Academician Bogolyubov developed his famous method of averaging. Graduated from the University of Poets Mustai Karim, Gilemdar Ramazanov, Igor Saveliev and others.

Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy

Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy is a major center for training medical practitioners in one of the largest regions of the Central European part of Russia.

The medical faculty was opened in 1920 as a faculty of Nizhny Novgorod University. In May, 1930 it became an independent Medical Institute and in June 1994 it got a status of the State Medical Academy. In 1992 the Faculty of Overseas Admissions was opened in NNSMA. Since 1998/99 academic year the Academy has started training international students in the English Medium.

The academy is staffed with 722 well-qualified specialists among them - 76 professors and 145 associate professors. Faculty of Overseas Admissions is staffed with 166 specialists among them - 32 professors and 56 associate professors. Up-to-date medical equipment is available to the students for their training and research work.

Saratov State Medical University

Saratov State Medical University is one of the oldest universities in Russia. It was founded in 1909. At that time Saratov State Medical University was organized as the only faculty of the University which was the 10th in Russia. The founder and the first Rector was Professor Vassily Razumovsky, an outstanding surgeon. He is considered to be the founder of a neurosurgery school in Russia.

In 1909, 93 students were admitted to the University. Only men were allowed to study. The education was paid.

Several Departments in the basic sciences were opened. They were Physiology, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and General Surgery. Then, in 1911 a new group of Departments started to function — Pathological Anatomy, Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy, Histology, General Hygiene, Forensic Medicine.

Many outstanding Russian scientists worked at the Medical Faculty: Prof. A. Bogomolets, prof. S. Spasokukotsky, prof. S. Mirotvortsev.

In 1930 reorganization in the field of education in Russia was carried out and many independent Institutes were organized. The Medical Faculty of Saratov University became an independent Medical Institute. Three faculties were organized — Medical, Sanitary-Prophylactic (but it soon stopped its existence) and Care of Mother and Child (which was soon renamed as a Faculty of Pediatrics).

By 1935 the Institute had about l600 students. In 1939 one more faculty was founded — the Faculty of Training Military Physicians — specialists for Army service. But during the World War II it stopped functioning and resumed its work only in late fifties.

After the World War II many new Departments were opened — mainly for the Faculty of Pediatrics — Propedeutics of Pediatric Diseases, Internal Diseases and Surgery for pediatricians.

In 1961 one more faculty started its work. It was the Faculty of Postdipioma continuing education. It was meant for refresher training of specialists, as well as for interns, residents and postgraduates. Once in 3—5 years specialists should take the refresher courses.

The population of Saratov is about 1 min. People, it lacked qualified dental service and in 1988 it was decided to open a Faculty of Dentistry.

Tambov State University

Tambov State University was founded in 1843 as the Alexandrinsky Institution. In its history of more than 167 years of existence, many changes have been introduced and in 1994 by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation it gained the status of Tambov State G.R. Derzhavin University.

The city of Tambov founded in 1636 is the centre of the Tambov area situated in the central part of Russia, close to Moscow, the capital city of Russia. This immediate proximity to Moscow contributes to the prompt political, economical and cultural development of Tambov. Following modern trends, the city of Tambov is rapidly developing: modern buildings are being constructed, malls, enterprises, sport and leisure centers are being opened. Economical development in its turn contributes to a constant demographic upsurge: around half a million people live in this city.

University students make up more than 10% of the total of the city population. This fact illustrates the attractiveness of the city to young people who wish to get a high quality tertiary education in a modern, rapidly growing and a developing city.

The infrastructure of the city and universities allows the students to combine successfully their studies with leisure providing all facilities for sports and entertaining activities.
